Here are a few eLearn issues we’ve found that may interest you.
The new My Blackboard Global Navigation tool in the upper-right includes a notifications number indicating that there are new items that the user should be made aware of. Quite often these are in the Updates module. It is possible to have no items in the Updates area while the red number still showing a positive number. Some notifications are not cleared or displayed using this tool. We haven’t determined which items are affected by this but the user can un-check which notifications they don’t wish to be alerted to from the Show/Hide Notifications menu.
Discussion Board – Hiding Forums
You cannot hide individual discussion forums from students in the Discussion tool directly. To work around this, create Course Links to individual discussion forums. If your course link is in a content page and not on the left column, you can enter your forum instructions in the description area and set each link’s visibility.
Calendar – manual entries in new classes
The new Calendar tool will automatically enter any item which has a due date, and you can drag and drop due dates directly from within the Calendar. Apparently though, to add calendar entries manually to appear in a particular course (new W13 courses), they need their properties edited to initialize this feature.
If you add an event to the calendar for a winter class and it disappears after a refresh, do the following:
- Go into your W13 course and open Customization.
- Choose Properties, then click the Submit button on the Properties page
- Check the calendar again. Your manually-entered events should now re-appear.
